Martin Johannes (Accounting 2006) went to Taiwan on October 18-21 2009 to join International Conference “HEROES International Conference 2009”. This event was the biggest Asia-Pacific Conference conducted annually.
This conference, which involved 80 delegates from 14 countries, raised three (3) global issues consist of HIV/AIDS, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability Development (like global warming isu and environmental isu. The involvement of this youth from Accounting major 2006 was being conference agenda manager which selected international facilitators, and responsible as the person who communicated and did coordination with the external speaker in this all 4 days conference.
The involvement of this student who was taking final assignment, of course come from his membership in AIESEC Local Committee Brawijaya University (Faculty of Economic). In AIESEC, Martin (his nickname) is being the national team of AIESEC in Indonesia as Key Partnership Coordinator with the responsibility to build a good partnership between Indonesia and other AIESEC Countries in term of exchange program. Besides, he is also being Asia Pacific Responsible for HIV/AIDS Initiative AIESEC in Asia Pacific with the responsibility to coordinate more than 14 countries to conduct HIV/AIDS Project in each countries, in one period of term.
During the conference where was held in Tao Yuan, Taiwan, this student who also actively involve as lecture assistant for Financial Accounting Practical, also have a role as one of international facilitator from total seven (7) facilitators coming fron different countries, consist of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, New Zealand, Mainland of China, and Hongkong. Martin wanted to describe Indonesia condition with all positive things and variety of culture and natural resources. Martin had a mission to change Indonesia’s image being better in international area, and the result was, all delegates there able to get the clear and real picture of Indonesia. Even, with all his stories about the beauty of Indonesia, some delegates from other countries interested to come to Indonesia.
During in Taiwan, Martin learned the social life. He learned that Taiwan people had a high discipline manner and loyal to the country. This third child from all four siblings gave a message and hope for Indonesia youth generation. “As Indonesian youth, this is the time for us to think for the Indonesia development and many things we can do to support Indonesia”. During the conference, Martin promoted Indonesia through wearing Batik cloth. This action was to let international view knew closer about Indonesia identity that batik is the original Indonesia culture. “Don’t ask what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country. Let’s create achievements for Indonesia in many ways”, said this Batak-Betawi young people.
The other achievements that this person who had hobby of singing consist of success in achieving top 2 GPA in Accounting Department, selected as second place for Mahasiswa Berprestasi Faculty of Economic, being national and international team in AIESEC, and contributed “The Best Local Committee for AIESEC Local Committee Brawijaya University” AIESEC in Indonesia. Martin’s goals in this near future are graduated soon, got a suitable job, and get another international experiences. Success for you Martin!! (farah/ris).
