The attendance of Faculty of Economics Brawijaya University student activist, Executive Board of Student Organization Faculty of Economics (BEM FE) in National Economic Symposium and Indonesia Economic Student Forum (FMEI) in University of Indonesia, Jakarta, October 13-15 October 2009 showed the result by declared the establishment of Indonesia Economic Student Forum (FMEI) at October 2009, 2009.
The establishment of FMEI in its press release recognized as a manifestation of thought form to build a forum for Executive Board for Student Organization of Economic Students in Indonesia. A thought that resulted with considerations and mature research. This forum is the initiated forum by BEM Faculty of Economics from 7 universities, UI-UNPAD-UGM-Trisakti-UNS-Andalas-Brwiajay as a platform to contribute actively and solution based problem orientation to the Indonesia Economic phenomena that able to criticize and contribute thought based economic for the policy issued by Indonesia government. R. Anggi Hakim, Head of BEM FE UB, that presented in the arrangement of FMEI establishment, wished, “ By the establishment of FMEI, hopefully Indonesian Economist can give real contribution to the nation.
In the beginning, the organization called Ikatan Senat Mahasiswa Ekonomi Indonesia (ISMEI) established as an intellectual platform for esecutive board for economic faculty student organization in contributing their idea to Indonesia. But, by the time goes, ISMEI did not align with the primary goals anymore. The action to leave from ISMEI membership was based on the culture of organization that did not reflect professionalism and student’s intellectual. This option we took is a commitment as part of solution, not part of problem. Students have role as agent of change.
The vision of FMEi is building the critical and intellectual culture of Indonesia Economic Students in doing movement in science productively and solution orientation generate qualified and impactful economic ideas for Indonesia, build synergy with stakeholder. The objective of FMEI is create the strengthen science culture and FMEI intellect quality, enable active role of Indonesia Economic students for Indonesia economic development in theory and application basis, achieve national solution for Indonesia’s social welfare, a tool to unify collective movement for Indonesia Economic students, enable a good and strong relationship with government and mass media.
